Our Client is a world leading trading house. They are one of the major players in the trading world with over 100,000 employees and over US$ 100 billion in annual sales and revenue. They provide innovative solutions to customers across major market segments; including agriculture and food and energy and natural resources. Some of their major businesses include the trading and distribution of agricultural commodities, manufacturing and sale of livestock and feed, trading in energy, steel and transport, and the production of food ingredients. They also provide risk management and financial solutions to both their customers and their own businesses in the markets of oil, gas, energy and resources. The have a very strong reputation for risk analysis and their Risk Management Group is an independent function that has Analysts embedded within the Business Units that carry the largest transactional risks. The risk team works in conjunction with the Risk Committee in establishing limits, monitoring exposure and providing fiduciary oversight. They aim to deliver a disciplined trading environment through excellent risk identification and position reporting. Due to an expansion of their Risk Management Group operations in Asia they are seeking an experienced market analysis professional to be embedded within their Energy and Metals business unit for the following role.

Role:

MARKET RISK ANALYST

Requirements:

    The Market Risk Analyst is required to join their established Risk Team. Applicants should have practical experience in product control, mark to market or market risk, ideally within a commodity trading environment. The ideal candidate will have a very strong interest in commodity markets and commodity risk management and should be detail oriented, process driven and possess excellent data management skills and strong report development capabilities.
    
    We are looking for someone would have a proven ability of working within a complex trading environment and the ability to interact with multiple stakeholders and manage conflicting demands. Experience of systems implementation in a trading environment would be beneficial.

    Core Accountabilities:

    Some of the core responsibilities of the role include;
    
•    Pro-actively driving the continued relevance of MTM methodology for the Asia businesses, escalating these issues and rectifying them when required
•    Pro-actively ensuring the improvement of position reporting, pnl reporting and MTM processes in the BU.
•    Identifying gaps in position reporting from risk representation, escalating these issues and driving their rectification.
•    Applying and driving adoption of best practice in risk reporting, analysis and management.
•    Participation in new business risk assessment and implementation from risk perspective.
•    Devise and institute controls over the independent price assessment process.
•    Participating in risk team stress testing processes.
•    Daily position reporting.
    
    In addition the role will require daily commentary on significant movements in stress and positions, seeking to understand significant pnl movements. It will also encompass tracking trading risks through participation in risk calls, SnD calls and game plan calls. There will also be the necessity to analyze trading performance through the back testing of key trading indicators.
    
    Other responsibilities will include:

•    Monitoring product line execution of game plan
•    Producing meaningful risk reports and risk analysis
•    Ensuring there aren’t any limit breaches.
•    Enhancing efficiency and effectiveness through spreadsheet automation and structured data management.
•    Participating or leading selected risk team projects (eg creating new risk reports, database or risk measures)
•    Cooperating with the rest of the risk team in maintaining risk team processes and database maintenance

Requirements:-

Applicants should possess a relevant tertiary academic qualification and have experience in risk management. Specific experience in commodity or energy risk management would be advantageous. Fluency in English is essential; the ability to also speak Mandarin would be a bonus. Excellent skills in Excel are required and VBA experience is preferred. An excellent grasp of commodity trading mark to market processes would be beneficial, as would excellent communications skills, high EQ levels and strong data management skills.
